So... last I checked in, I had gotten a ticket on Route 7 in Vermont.
Since that time, while visiting L at her place of work, I backed out of my parking spot into a bollard put there so I would not back into the building. Estimate of the repair cost on that is in the "almost $1000" range.
Then, this morning, on Route 4, at the intersection with Route 10, I was in the right lane. The left lane goes straight, but also turns left on Route 10. Routinely, the right lane is jammed, and the left lane has 2 or 3 cars trying to turn left. Frequently, someone thinks it will be faster to get behind the short stack of cars than just being in the right lane. Almost invariably, this is not the case. At some point, the car in the left lane who thought it would be faster, loses patience and pulls into the right lane. That's what happened today, except the woman in the Chevy Trailblazer pulled right and I happened to be in that lane already. The result was a long scraping of the paint along the side of the car. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and my car is already scheduled to be repaired anyway, so I am taking it in so the auto body place can work up an estimate on it today. The woman was apologetic, and will be paying for the repairs. But this is really not my month for travelling by car. I am considering moving to some really really tiny island off the coast of Nova Scotia and never using a car again, but I am guessing L would probably not want to come along. On the other hand, given her house issues, maybe she'd be more than happy to join me.
